Revillon FrèresProduction credit:director/scenario/photography/titles, Robert Flaherty; assistant to director, Thierry Mallet; editing assistant, Charles Gelb; titles, Carl Stearns ClancyCountry of production:usDistributor name:Pathé Exchange Inc.Description:An account of Nanook, his band of Itimuvit Inuit, and their struggle for survival on the coast of Hudson Bay, near the Belcher Islands. We are introduced to Nanook, his wife Nyla, and his family. They prepare for a summer journey to the Revillon Frères trading post and to the fishing grounds. At the post the Inuit trade pelts for food and dry goods. They are introduced to a gramophone. Other sequences show Nanook crossing the ice floe by foot to harpoon fish for his starving band; a group of men stalking and landing a walrus; Nanook and Nyla building an igloo while the children play; Nanook teaching his son to use the bow and arrow; spearing and landing a square-flippered seal; and taking refuge in an abandoned igloo. The film also includes excellent footage of dogsled travel and sled dogs; of Nyla softening Nanook's boots by chewing; and of Nanook paddling his kayak toward and away from shore. <85mn>Subjects:BELCHER ISLANDS~CHILDREN~CLOTHING & DRESS~DOGSLEDDING~DWELLINGS~FISHING~FUR TRADE~HUNTING~ICEBERGS~IGLOOS~INUIT~KAYAKS~NORTHWEST TERRITORIES~SLED DOGS~TRADING POSTS Language:Silent with English intertitlesNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
