Co-operative Committee on Japanese Canadians : The Co-operative Committee on Japanese Canadians was set up in Toronto in 1942 to aid Japanese Canadians arriving from British Columbia after being forcibly removed from their homes under the War Measures Act. Besides providing assistance with housing and employment, the Committee compiled briefs concerning deportation of Japanese Canadians to Japan. With the end of the war, the Committee took an active part in the question of compensation for losses resulting from dispossession of goods and assets of those Japanese Canadians left behind in the restricted zone.

Received in 1958 from Miss M.K. Boos, the former secretary. Copies of minutes, 1943-1946, received in 1977 from McMaster University, the Edith Fowke Papers.

Original description:
The Co-operative Committee on Japanese was set up in Toronto in 1942 to aid in the resettlement of Japanese Canadians who were arriving from relocation centres in British Columbia. Besides providing assistance in problems of housing, and employment, the Committee compiled briefs concerning deportation and repatriation, and on the repeal of these measures took an active part in the question of compensation for losses resulting from relocation.
