British-American Coal Company : British-American Coal Company Ltd., under the guidance and advice of engineer William T. Jennings, was formed in 1897 from a syndicate of 15 people. The Company was granted the right to purchase coal and other properties in Crows Nest Pass, Alberta. In 1919, British-American Coal negotiated an agreement to purchase Spokane Coal and Coke Company at the price of 00,000. However, in July 1929, the agreement went into default because British-American Coal forfeited on the remaining payments and the agreement was cancelled.

The purchasers expended considerable money in the construction of a railway right-of-way from the coal lands out to the C.P.R. Railway at Crows Nest Station, which was eventually washed away by mountain floods.

Beginning in 1952 and finally culminating in 1955, the company's assets were liquidated, the company withdrew its registration in the Province of Alberta and surrendered its Charter to the Secretary of State for Canada.
