In this interview of Alberta Premier Ernest C. Manning, Manning comments on the following subjects: his travels by car around Alberta to give speeches; the definition of a free society; politics as a practical discussion of public affairs rather than a personality contest; prospects for future industrial development in Alberta, such as the Athabaska oil sands, the extension of rail service to the Western region to make resources accessible, and a project in cooperation with the United States to pave the Alaska Highway; tourism; the Social Credit party; the next federal election; Real Caouette; and the differences between the Quebec Social Credit party and federal Social Credit policies. Manning also talks about: idealogy; free enterprise; the political right versus the left; the need for 'progressive dynamic political force' that is unafraid of change but able to preserve the fundamentals of a free society and free enterprise system; the leadership capabilities of the Social Credit Party and the early history of the party.
