Collection consists of oral history interviews with people who lived through the years of World War I (1914-1919), their recollections and their opinions of the affect the War had on Canadian society, 1974. The collection also includes transcripts of the interviews that were found to have the most significance, 1974.

War and Canadian Society : The Opportunities for Youth programme funded a group of ten University of Toronto students to undertake the War and Canadian Society Project. The Project focussed on the period of World War I. In the summer of 1974 the students interviewed, on tape, some 225 Toronto citizens concerning their experience before and during the War. The intention of the project was to obtain information as to how the War changed Canadian society. An attempt was made to interview a cross-section of Canadians and the interviews ranged from homsteaders to members of the Toronto social elite.
