Fonds consists of the following series: Associations, clubs and discussion groups, 1925-1967; Camp Oolahwan committee minutes, reports and training programmes, 1916-1974; Committee minutes, 1910-1973; Education, courses and seminars, 1919-1972; Finance, 1918-1975; Fire and new building campaign, 1942-1961; General materials, 1892-1975; Organization, 1907-1975; Personnel, 1918-1972; Reports, 1877-1972; Status of Women, 1931-1968; and United Red Feather Services, 1963-1976.

The fonds also contains photographs, 1937-1973, relating to the Y.W.C.A. including a Y.W.C.A. hostel, Calcutta, India; fire damage to Y.W.C.A. building, Montreal, Que., April 1948; delegates to World Membership Conference of Y.W.C.A., Whitby, Ont., 1950; a billboard advertising Y.W.C.A. centennial, 1970; and a portrait of Dr. Marion Hilliard, Toronto, Ont., 1958.

Montreal Young Women's Christian Association : The Montreal Young Women's Christian Association (MYWCA) was founded on 24 May, 1874. One of its first functions was to set up a library and reading room, along with a residence for working girls. The residence was enlarged in 1908 by the opening of branches in Verdun, Pointe St-Charles, and Fairmount. In the 1920s, the MYWCA's doors were opened to people of all religions. In 1968, 20% of the membership was French-speaking, while the Board of Directors was comprised of women of the Protestant, Roman Catholic and Jewish faiths.

The purpose of the Association is, through its members, to build a fellowship of women and girls devoted to the task of realizing in their common life those ideals of personal and social living to which they are committed by their faiths. In this endeavor, they seek to understand Jesus, to share His love for all people, and to grow in the love and knowledge of God.
