Fonds consists of a letter from John A. Macdonald commenting on the "double shuffle", dated 10 August 1858, 2 pages; letter and enclosure from Egerton Ryerson, dated 3 July 1837, thanking Gowan for his support of the Upper Canada Academy Bill, and two letters from John A. Macdonald, one from 21 January 1859, urging Gowan to be present in the House on opening day, the other, 8 September 1859, referring to patronage matters and the state of Gowan's health, photocopies, 6 pages.

The fonds also includes one photograph by Stride Studios of an oil painting portrait of Mr. A.D. Ferguson.

Gowan, Ogle Robert, 1796-1876 : Ogle Robert Gowan was a politician and journalist who sat in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada, from 1836 to 1841. He sat in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, from 1844 to 1847 and from 1858 to 1861.
