Fonds consists of six letters by Richard Chater, Clock and Watchmaker, London, England, ca. 1800, illustrating the financial dealings that underlay the business carried on between an English and a Quebec clockmaker (James Hanna), from 1794 to 1810. Also included is an advertisement by Richard Chater. The material was copied in 1983.

Chater, Richard, 1760?-1811 : Richard Chater, his father and brother were all involved in the London Watch and Clockmakers firm. Richard Chater was apprenticed to the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1774, obtained the freedom of the Company in 1781, and livery of the Company in 1803. He died in 1811.
