Fonds consists of correspondence attributed mainly to William and Charles Stewart Philip, their heirs and agents concerned mostly with land affairs; the correspondence of the Price family, mainly about issues of familial concern; estate records of the Philip and Price families; and legal papers including powers of attorney, subpoenas, legal opinions, notes and memoranda which reflect the legal battle over the vacant estate of Thomas Scott.

Fonds consists of a map pertaining to Price's ventures into mining exploration in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, showing the layout of various mining company claims.

Price, William (family) : William Price played a major role in the economic and political development of the Saguenay Region of Eastern Quebec before Confederation. He came to Canada from England in 1810 and rose from a position as clerk to be the head of his own lumber company. William Price married Jane, daughter of Charles Grey Stewart in 1825, and both his sons and grandsons were prominent Quebec businessmen.

General note:

The papers were received from Colonel H.E.C. Price of Ottawa: volumes 1-7 in 1982 and volume 8 in 1989.
Three maps were transferred to the Cartographic and Architectural Division. The maps illustrate township boundaries in the Eastern Townships, ca. 1800.
