Canadian Library Week Council : The council was founded in 1959 as an initiative of the Canadian Library Association, although it was separately incorporated. Its aim was to publicize the important part played by libraries in adult education and in individual and community development, through week long observance on a national scale. It was found to be difficult to obtain financial support outside of Quebec and its operations ceased in 1967 except in Quebec. Government subsidies were received in Quebec. The Charter was surrendered in 1973. The work was continued by the Canadian Library Association.
