Fonds consists of correspondence addressed to the editor of the Carleton Place Herald concerning the placement of advertisements, (vols. 1 and 2). The correspondence of James Poole, editor of the Carleton Place Herald, was removed from a set of office copies of the weekly newspaper for the period 1856 to 1865. It has been retained in the order of the issues to which it refers. The fonds also contains fourteen broadsheets which were to be used as advertisements in the newspaper, (vol. 3). These information sheets relate to the following: the electors of the South Riding of Lanark, St James Church in Perth, the availability of a medical doctor, Dr. Morton of Farmersville, at Carleton Place for one day; the sale of dry goods, groceries, dress goods etc.; the sale at auction of farm properties, the availability of a stallion for mares, the sale of mowing and reaping implements, a farming invention, the sale of British and foreign goods, and timetables for the Brockville and Ottawa Railway on the Queen's birthday and at different seasons. There are also two sheets from a register of mails sent to Bellamy Mills.
