Fonds consists of letters from Miss Rachel Emily Shaw-Lefevre (later the Baroness Stanmore) written to her family while in Canada as a companion to Caroline, daughter of Sir Edmund and Lady Head. The letters give an account of her travels in Canada, a visit to Boston and New York and describe social life in Quebec.

Shaw-Lefevre, Rachel Emily, d. 1889 : Rachel Emily Shaw-Lefevre was the daughter of Sir John George Shaw-Lefevre, and married Baron Stanmore, Sir Arthur Hamilton Gordon, on 24 September, 1865. She spent some time in Canada travelling as a companion to Caroline, daughter of Sir Edmund and Lady Head in 1889. She died 26 January, 1889.
