Fonds consists of correspondence, accounts, deeds, bonds and related business records of William Loch and his partnership with Archibald Duncan (Duncan & Loch), and papers accumulated by William Loch Stuart in the course of settling his uncle's estate. Included are detailed statements of the estates of both Archibald Duncan and William Loch at the time of their deaths. The correspondence provides considerable political and social commentary.

Loch, William, 1786-1856 : William Loch, merchant, emigrated from Scotland to New Brunswick in 1817. In partnership with Archibald Duncan (d.1832), he dealt in lumber and general merchandise at Newcastle and Miramichi. On his death, the affairs of the firm, Duncan & Loch, were wound up by his nephew and heir, William Loch Stuart.
