Germany. Bremen Staatsarchiv : The Bremen Staatsarchiv was developed in the 13th century as part of the city's governing structures. Serving as keeper of the charters guaranteeing Bremen's rights within the Holy Roman Empire, the Staatsarchiv came, in time, to collect and safeguard records of both a governmental nature and records relating to the city's role as a trade and shipping centre.
