Ottawa Valley Cricket Council : The Carleton Cricket Club, founded in 1840, introduced the game of cricket to Bytown. The presence in subsequent years of British troops gave impetus to the game, and it was in 1866, that Captain Pemberton of the 60th Rifles laid out the first cricket pitch in the grounds of Rideau Hall. Through the courtesy of successive Governors General, cricket has been played continuously at Rideau Hall since 1867. The present Ottawa Club has existed since that time.

There were for many years just four clubs in the Ottawa Valley Cricket Council; including the Ottawa Cricket Club, New Edinburgh Cricket Club, Cathedral Cricket Club and the Defence Cricket Club. Competition for the Challenge Cup began in 1922, when the Ottawa Cricket Club won the championship.

Expansion took place in 1959, with the addition of the Kingston Cricket Club, and continued with the addition of the present Canadian Forces Cricket Club in 1965 and the Bel-Air Cricket Club in 1967. The year 1968 saw the division of the Ottawa Valley Council into "A" and "B" Divisions, each of seven teams with Brockville in the "B" Division.
