Canadian Western Power and Fuel Co. Ltd : The Canadian Western Power and Fuel Company Limited originated in Redcliff, Alta., during the boom years preceding 1913. In 1911, the Redcliff Realty Company began to install gas mains in the town, and in 1912, the firm was granted the franchise to distribute natural gas and to maintain an electricity plant. Subsequently, the Redcliff Light and Power Company was created to operate the franchise.

In 1916, Redcliff Light and Power sold its gas system and franchise to W.H. McLaws of Calgary, who proceeded to form the Canadian Western Power and Fuel Company Limited. However, due to a period of economic decline in Redcliff, the company's revenue declined and McLaw was unable to meet interest payments on the company's bonds. In 1922, the bond holders took legal action resulting in the sale of the company to Dominion Glass, which owned a large factory in Redcliff; thereby the company became a subsidiary.
