Foster, Stephen K., 1811-1887 : Stephen K. Foster was born in St. John, New Brunswick in 1811. In 1832 he married Louisa Whittaker. Foster was involved in a shoe and paper business with his father, Lawrence Foster. In addition to his business ventures, Stephen Foster was active in politics, serving for many years as an alderman for Queens ward. He was also an unsuccessful candidate for mayor and member of the House of Assembly. At the time of his death in 1887, he was living in Ottawa with his son, George C. Foster.
