Society for the Overseas Settlement of British Women : The Society for the Overseas Settlement of British Women (S.O.S.B.W.) was founded in 1919 by the amalgamation of the British Women's Emigration Association, the South African Colonization Society and the Colonial Intelligence League and a Commission was set up by the Secretary of State to draft its constitution. The societies' main functions were advising the Overseas Settlement Committee on Policy questions relating to emigration and the recruitment of individual professional women in co-operation with the High Commissioners' Offices. In 1962 the society became the Womens Migration and Overseas Appointment Society, and in 1963 the S.O.S.B.W. ceased its operations.
