Fonds consists of an overview of the history of the committee prepared by Dorothy Bishop of Ottawa, the Secretary of the Canadian Section from 1948 to 1969, 2 pages; minutes, correspondence and newsletters; a copy of The Villager, March 1951 containing an article entitled, "Experiment in International Understanding" written by Dr. James.

Fonds consists of photographs depicting a visit by the members of the Canadian-American Women's Committee (Canadian Section) to United Aircraft Corp., Hartford, Conn., 3 Nov. 1949.

Canadian-American Women's Committee. Canadian Section : The Canadian-American Woman's Committee was organized in Ottawa in May, 1942 at a conference of delegates from women's organizations in Canada and the United States. It was originally known as the Canadian Women's Committee on International Relations. The American Section was formed in October of the same year in New York. Although autonomous, the committees worked in close cooperation.

The objectives of the Canadian-American Women's Committee were the development of mutual appreciation and co-operation between the peoples of Canada and the United States through increased knowledge. The Canadian-American Women's Committee promoted large educational conferences, field study trips for college students and for teachers, exchanges of children's art, student exchange, teacher exchange, travelling book exhibits, Canadian films, lecture tours and international hospitality. The committee disbanded in 1969.

The Canadian chairman until her death in 1962 was Senator Cairine Wilson. The American chairman during the life of the committee was Dr. May Hall James, professor of sciology at New Haven State Teachers College. From 1962 to 1969, the chairman of the Canadian Section was Mrs. John Labatt of London, Ontario.
